Beyoncé leads MTV Video Music Awards with 8 nods

NEW YORK (AP) — Doing a visual album has paid off for Beyoncé: She’s the leading nominee at the MTV Video Music Awards.

MTV announced Thursday that Beyoncé is up for eight moonman trophies, including video of the year for “Drunk in Love.” Iggy Azalea and Eminem are nominated for seven awards each.

Pharrell is the only man nominated for the top prize. Along with Beyoné, his “Happy” will compete with Azalea’s “Fancy,” Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and Sia’s “Chandelier” for video of the year.

Azalea is nominated twice for best pop video and female video, thanks to her other hit, the Ariana Grande-led smash “Problem.”

The VMAs will air live Aug. 24 from The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Performers include Grande, Usher and 5 Seconds of Summer.

A New York City doctor says U2 singer Bono suffered multiple fractures and had to have two surgeries after his weekend bicycle accident. Orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Dean Lorich says Bono underwent a five-hour surgery on his elbow in which three plates and 18 screws were inserted on Sunday night. Bono had another surgery to repair a fracture to his left pinkie on Monday. Lorich says Bono will need therapy but a full recovery is expected.

Bono is a launching an all-star campaign featuring "once-in-a-lifetime experiences" like walking the red carpet with Meryl Streep or visiting the "Game of Thrones" set.
