Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has thrown his support behind boxer and entertainer Manny Pacquia’s bid to become a political heavyweight in his native Philippines.

The fighter and Clinton were both guests on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday night, and the ex-leader heaped praise on the boxing champ, who was promoting his upcoming bout with Timothy Bradley for the WBO Welterweight belt.

Clinton said, “He’s already in the Philippine parliament and I hope he goes right on up the ladder. I think he’s a great guy and I think he’s a great role model for the country and he’s very strong and honest.”

Pacquiao was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines in 2010.

He was re-elected last year to the 16th Congress of the Philippines.
