Tommy Ramone, the last surviving member of The Ramones original line up, died on Friday at the age of 62.

Ramone died in a hospice center in New York, where he had been receiving treatment for bile duct cancer, according to the New York Daily News.

Ramone served as drummer for the 1970s punk band’s first three albums.

A statement on the band’s official Facebook page read: “We are saddened to announce the passing of Tommy Ramone (nee Erdelyi), the original drummer for the Ramones, earlier today, 11 July 2014.”
