Billy Ray Cyrus has spoken out about his daughter Miley Cyrus’ sexually-charged performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, insisting she’s still his “little girl”.

The former Hannah Montana star hit the headlines after she joined the Blurred Lines hitmaker at the Barclays Center, clad in a nude-coloured, latex two-piece and ‘twerked’ and gyrated with the 36 year old husband and father onstage.

Cyrus’ former TV mom Brooke Shields and Cyndi Lauper are among the celebrities who have slammed the 20 year old’s raunchy routine, but the Achy Breaky Heart singer is refusing to open up about his post-show thoughts.

Asked for his opinion on his daughter’s VMAs performance during an interview with news show Entertainment Tonight, he simply says, “I’ll always be here for Miley. Can’t wait (to) see her when she gets home. She’s still my little girl and I’m still her dad regardless how this circus we call showbusiness plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”

The TV chat came just hours after Billy Ray revealed a tweet he sent out on Monday about the situation in Syria had nothing to do with his daughter’s VMAs controversy.

On Monday he wrote, “Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love… less hate.”

Fans felt sure he was defending his daughter’s raunchy routine, but he has since added, “FYI ‘Love Not Hate’ Late last night I was watching devastating news out of Syria. Chemical weapons used on innocent children is unacceptable!”
